Hong Kong International Airport

Hong Kong International Airport is located 21 mi/34 km northwest of Hong Kong Island, at Chek Lap Kok. The airport features one expansive terminal with two main sides connected by an internal shuttle train, allowing it to offer service from 87 different airlines. Thanks to its size and its technology, it is one of the major aviation hubs for Southeast Asia.

Arrivals and Departures: Hong Kong Airport consists of two terminals, with Terminal 1 the second biggest terminal building in the world. In Terminal One departures are on the upper level and arrivals are one the lower. Immigration is polite and brief and you should expect to wait between 5 and 15 minutes to clear entry formalities. Baggage can be found after immigration and is usually on the carousel within 10 to 15 minutes. Terminal 1 has two arrival gates, and if you’ve being collected by someone you should agree to meet at either Gate A or Gate B. Transport between Terminal 1 and 2 is provided by a free Automated People Mover, which travels roughly every two minutes.

On the third floor you will find unmanned shuttles called “APM,’ which are convenient for transportation between the Immigration Area and Gates 33 - 80. There are also moving walkways on the fifth and sixth floors.

Left luggage facilities are available in the arrivals hall of Terminal 1 and on Level 3 of Terminal 2. There are also three Tourist Information booths in the arrivals hall of Terminal 1, where you can pick up a map and get essential information about the city.



Before you take a taxi, you may ask about the probably of taxi fare at the information desk to prevent the arbitrary charge of some taxi drivers.



Hong Kong airport has fast wifi internet access if you have your own wireless device.



Airline check-in:
Hong Kong International Airport provides passengers with round-the-clock check-in at both Terminal 1 (T1) and Terminal 2 (T2).

 

Information and Help Desks: The Customer Service Centers can be found in the Departures check in hall and in the arrivals hall, open daily 0530-2400. Multi-media booths are located in the East, West and Arrivals halls, with interactive information and a touch-screen map. There are dozens of 24-hour help phones located throughout the terminal.
